History of Football club Bežanija |

FC Bezanija is a club with long tradition.
Throughout its history club carried a different names (Soko, BSK, HŠK). After the war, in the 1946., club was named Jedinstvo and for the first time in the history it was registered for the official competitions in League of Srem and became a member of the football association of Novi Sad.
Between 1946. and 1952. club competed in League of Srem and in the fall of 1952. moved to the area of Belgrade football association. That same year, the club registered youth team to compete in the second youth zone. Before the start of season 1955/56 FC Jedinstvo changed its name to FC Bezanija as it is called today.
From the 1965/66 season to 1988/89 season the club was competing with more or less success in the second or first Belgrade division.
In the season 1988/89 season began advancement of Bezanija. That season the club won first place in Belgrade's first division and for the first time in its history competed in Belgrade league. Club won the champion title in Belgrade League and secure place in the Serbian league. It was the biggest success of Bezanija in the former Yugoslavia, especially if one takes into account the quality of the clubs in that period.
In 2004/05 season, FC Bezanija won first place in the Serbian league and advanced to the Second division.
In the season 2005/06, Bezanija won first place in the second division and qualified for the Meridian Super League which consisted of 12 teams. FC "Bezanija", as a rookie in our elite competition, has achieved excellent results in Meridian Super League, which that season was played in the playoff and play-out system. The first 6 teams played a play-off, and the other 6 teams played a play-out. Bezanija was placed in the top 6 teams, and at the end of the season FC Bezanija took fourth place in League just behind Red Star, Partizan and Vojvodina and provided competing in firts round of qualifications in UEFA CUP. This was the biggest success in the history of our club.
In the qualification matches Bezanija played two games with the Albanian team Besa. The result of the first match in Belgrade was 2:2, second in Tirana with a score of 0:0. Club finished competing unbeaten in the UEFA Cup competition and presented with dignity Serbian football on the European scene. |
